Brazilian hero Captain R.E.D. makes international debut

Red Dragon Publisher releases comic book of the Rio de Janeiro hero in North America, Europe, and Asia.

From Brazil to the world! Brazilian hero Captain R.E.D., created by comic book artist and actor Ellyan, is making a strong entrance with a new licensed title in various countries. Released by Red Dragon Publisher, a company that licenses books, comics, and graphic novels, the new comic book Captain RED — Risk and Emergence District will be available in countries such as the United States, Canada, Poland, Russia, South Korea, China, India, Australia, and New Zealand.

Captain RED was created by Ellyan (script) — who changed his artistic name, but was previously known as Elyan Lopes or Elenildo Lopes (his given name), A-Lima (art), and Gil Santos (colors) — and tells the adventures of a military superhero who fights crime on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. He is Officer Ellano, leader of the special elite troop called R.E.D., created to combat the growing criminal factions in Brazil. For his mission, Captain RED has specially designed equipment, such as combat armor, a shield attached to his chest, and a motorcycle for transportation.

The comic book also features a short story entitled “Davi’s Prologue,” showing a young delinquent who finds inspiration in the superhero’s life. A distinctive feature of the character is that the plot takes place in the state of Rio de Janeiro, whose scenery, such as his hometown Niterói, which has the largest number of works by architect Oscar Niemeyer, serves as a postcard of Brazil for other countries. It is a way of presenting the national beauties to the audience who still doesn’t know the country.

Captain RED made his debut in his own title in 2012, independently released by the author, and was republished in 2016 by Kimera Publisher. The international version repeats the same story already published, and new adventures of the Brazilian military hero are planned for the future, inspired by the movie “Elite Squad” (2007), starring actor Wagner Moura.

“For me, the launch is much more than the realization of a dream, but a great gift because this year Captain R.E.D. celebrates ten years since his debut. I hope that this initiative from Red Dragon Publisher in partnership with the MeuHerói Entertainment label will enable many other Brazilian superheroes to be presented and published in foreign lands,” celebrates Lopes, who announced the news on his social media.

For Alex Magno, editor of Red Dragon Publisher, the release can provide a cultural exchange between Brazil and the countries where the comic book will be published. “The expectation is that the title will be very successful and that it will be the first step in opening doors for others who will come along the same path,” he said.
