Behind the scenes of Second Sight Publishing with CEO Bradley Golden

A lot of people are wondering about the state of comics these days — especially with the conflicting reports on readership and sales. We thought that it made sense to talk with someone who is right in the center of these conversations — Second Sight Publishing’s Bradley Golden.

Like his name implies, Bradley has a bit of a “golden” touch when it comes to creating great comic books and stories. He’s Glyph Comics and Sequential Magazine Award nominated writer and has worked for Antarctic Press, Caliber Comics, and Dark Horse.  Currently Golden serves as the CEO of Second Sight.

On social media, Golden recently announced that Dark Horse had spotlighted some of his work:

… and quite frankly I wanted to understand why Dark Horse shouted his company out, and what else Second Sight has in store.

INDIE COMICS ZONE:
For those who don’t know, can you tell us about Second Sight Publishing, and what you’re aiming to do with this brand?

BRADLEY GOLDEN:
Sure, Second Sight Publishing is the premiere indie horror comic book company in the world. We have recently shifted to have Manga and Children books for fans that are a bit more squeamish to our brand of horror. I’m looking to bring Horror, Manga, and Children books to the market that’s unique and exciting.

INDIE COMICS ZONE:
I saw that you were recognized by Dark Horse… can you tell us about that? What does this mean for you and for Second Sight?

BRADLEY GOLDEN:
Yes, we have partnered with Dark Horse Comics to bring our Shook! horror brand to the masses. This means for Second Sight Publishing LLC is that we will be recognized around the world as a partner of one of the largest comic book companies in the world.

I mean to see our logo right beside Dark Horse Comics on a horror anthology throughout the world is huge for the Second Sight Publishing name and brand.

INDIE COMICS ZONE:
Fantastic! Can you tell us a little bit about your experiences with the Dark Horse, Caliber, and Antarctic publishers?

BRADLEY GOLDEN:
Oh my experience have been great with all those publishers. I actually got my start with Ben Dunn at Antarctic Press. He brought me in on Mangazine in 2018 and from there I went on to write “Leave on the Light,” “Exciting Comics,” and form their horror comics line for them.

At the same time I was forming my own company and partnered with Caliber Comics to publish my anthology series “Mississippi Zombie,” and Marcus H. Roberts series, “Harvest of Horrors.” They are our tryout books

INDIE COMICS ZONE:
The way people look at comics and stories from comic books (and manga) is changing, especially after the MCU and DC movies. From your perspective, are comic books on the rise, or do you think something else is happening?

BRADLEY GOLDEN:
Honesty, I think comics are changing. When I go to my local comic book stores I see more and more people are decreasing their weekly pull list for the lack of great stories.

I believe DC and Marvel need to get back to the basics of what made them great back when legends like John Byrne, Walt Simonson, Alan Moore, and Chris Claremont told the stories.

I’m not saying the writers of today can’t tell compelling stories, because some are. I’m just stating that they need to research more and find out what made them so great and incorporate that into their work.

INDIE COMICS ZONE:
What advice would you give a young creator who wants to get started in the field?

BRADLEY GOLDEN:
I would say get out there and create comics. You really can’t get into this industry until you have a body of work to show. That’s the long and short of it.

We’ll [give] creators the ability to start getting paid they will be activated and you can start buying their stuff. It’s as simple as that.

INDIE COMICS ZONE:
Can you tell us some new projects that you’ve got cooking with Second Sight?

BRADLEY GOLDEN:
